The Nine Stones lie just west of the village of Winterbourne Abbas in Dorset, a small stone circle at the side of the road. A local folk tale tells of how these stones were nine children who were punished for playing five-stones or jacks on a Sunday by being turned to stone.

In a nice juxtaposition of modern and ancient waystations, the path to the Nine Stones starts in a Little Chef car park...
